About Philadelphia Vision for Employment, 2010!
The History
More and more people are hearing and understanding the message - employment is a huge part of realizing personal satisfaction and community inclusion for people we serve - earning money, contributing to the community, opportunities for social interaction and increasing social capital are all key aspects of building and enjoying an "everyday life." 2006 was designated "The Year of Employment," ushered in by the November 2005 My City, My Place and Brighter Futures Awards that focused new energy and initiatives on "employment for all."

To carry forward the energy and momentum, MRS and Networks for Training and Development convened a symposium with more than 100 stakeholders, including individuals, families, CIE providers, supports coordinators, staff, representatives of the School District, OVR and other systems, employers and other representatives from the business community, to forge, together, Philadelphia's Vision for Employment 2010. "Many different people are involved, on many fronts related to employment," said Michael McAllister, Ph.D., Executive Director of Networks, "and that is critical, because the only way for us meet our shared goal of increasing employment opportunities for people is to work and plan together. A new, key aspect of the work of '2010' is actively collaborating with employers and the business community to achieve our common goals." Using the PATH (Planning Alternative Tomorrows with Hope) strategic planning process, the attendees reviewed the current status of employment in Philadelphia and planned for even greater and bolder action moving forward.
