The Octavia Green “Dream Job” Award Octavia Green embodied a life of choices and realizing her dreams. During her 20+ years of service in the advocacy community, Octavia conducted training on a variety of topics including building healthy relationships, self-determination, sexual abuse, and other quality of life issues affecting the lives of people with disabilities. Her passing on May 18, 2006, was deeply felt by all those Octavia touched during her life. Octavia worked as a consultant with Networks for Training and Development, Inc., (Networks), specifically with the Person-to-Person training series since its inception in 1992. She joined Networks’ staff in November of 2005 as their Assistant Training Coordinator. Upon officially joining Networks, Octavia often said, “I finally have my dream job!” Networks is pleased to announce the fourth year of The Octavia Green Dream Job Award. Given in honor of Octavia, this award will honor a self-advocate who has taken an active role in the pursuit and achievement of his or her dream job. Help us celebrate the dream job in all of us! The Exemplary Employer Award For the past six years, Networks has honored Pennsylvania employers who display commitment, integrity, and extraordinary support to people with disabilities in the workplace. We would like your agency to nominate employers who you feel have done an outstanding job creating an exceptional working environment for someone your agency supports. You may nominate co-workers, supervisors, managers or any other employee within the business you feel deserves an award. Previous awardees have demonstrated a willingness and genuineness to encourage people with disabilities to obtain and keep jobs in inclusive settings. They have helped to establish natural supports in their workplace and have stood out among their peers in supporting individuals with disabilities in the workforce. Each nomination form will be reviewed and the winners selected by the Employer Awards Committee. Winners will be honored on the evening of the first day of the symposium at an awards dinner. We are also requesting that dinner costs for award recipients be paid for by the nominating agency. Networks is pleased to announce the sixth year of The Exemplary Employer Awards. Nominations should be sent to Julia Barol, in the attached format via email to: juliab@networksfortraining.org or fax 610.935.6497, by March 4, 2011. For more information, call 267.408.9083.
