Why Employment First?

It is the right of every person to work. Everyone should be given the opportunity to make choices about the type of work they do and provided supports to do so!

Employment First is...

• The belief that all citizens, including individuals with significant disabilities, are capable of full participation in integrated employment and community life. (DOL, ODEP)
• The belief that employment in the general workforce should be the first and preferred option for individuals with disabilities. (APSE)
• The right to competitive integrated employment.
• The right to earn a living.
• Real jobs for real pay.
